Weekly Announcements for Week of Dec 14

Hello all in the Land of the Eagles,

This is Sally Whitelock and Benita Cervantes with announcements for the week of December 14  for the Edison Eagles…

Thank you for your continued support during this difficult time. We would like to continue to encourage everyone to stay healthy and do your part to get our community more healthy – wear masks, socially distance, wash your hands, keep your social groups very small. We all need to work together to get our students back into school in person as soon as possible. THANK YOU!

Edison Office Hours

In order to keep everyone safe and healthy at Edison, most staff are working from home. Edison’s office will be staffed in person this week on Tuesday and Thursday between 8:00 and 3:00. If you need support at other times, please email:

Read-a-Thon – Starting this week!

Winter break is fast approaching which means it is time for the Read-a-Thon!  The Read-a-Thon will take place December 18 – January 4th and has two goals.
– Keep students reading during the 18 days off of winter break.
– Raise money for classroom libraries and the Edison Library.

This year we will be using Read For My Schools to track students’ reading minutes and to support donations to the Read A Thon.

Families, help your student set up an account here ASAP!!!   https://rfms.app/35311

There are two ways to donate to the Read-a-Thon:
– Venmo: @EdisonElementaryPTA  (Edison gets 100%)
– Use Read For My Schools and Stripe (Edison gets 90%)

Students can earn cool prizes for reading over break!  The goal is for all students to read for 400 minutes which is about 20 minutes a day.  Students can of course read more than that and move up the leader board!   Keep track of your reading and thank you for supporting Edison Elementary.

Mizel Museum

Monday-Thursday this week, students will have the privilege of attending the Bridges of Cultural Understanding, a virtual field trip sponsored by the Mizel Museum. Edison has a strong belief that all cultures should be respected and valued. As students learn about their own and others’ cultures, they develop this awareness and appreciation. We hope our students learn a lot and enjoy this experience.

Edison Spirit Friday

Friday, December 18 –  PJ day – wear your PJs to school today.

Do you want to drop off holiday gifts for teachers?

If you would like to give a holiday gift to your child’s teacher, please drop it off at Edison on Tuesday or Thursday between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm. Please let Barbara or Michelle know who it is for and we will let the teacher know to come to the school to pick it up. Happy Holidays!

DPS Family Survey

DPS released the latest round of surveys on Nov. 30 to gather feedback from families regarding remote learning. If you haven’t already, we ask that you please take a few minutes of your time today to complete the latest survey. The last day to complete the survey is Dec. 11. This survey asks questions to help us understand the challenges of remote learning, what your student is enjoying, and what we can do to better support their needs. It is completely confidential, so please feel free to openly share your feedback.

Return to In person learning

** Please note, this is subject to change based on health conditions!

As you are aware, DPS is committed to returning students to in person learning as soon as possible while also monitoring health conditions within our city.  Please plan on the following at Edison for January:
– Kindergarten – 5th grade students who have chosen online learning for the 2nd semester will return to school on January 5 remotely with the same schedule and will continue using Seesaw to submit assignments.
– ECE-5th grade students who have chosen in person learning, will attend school remotely from January 5-8 with the same schedule and will continue using Seesaw to submit assignments. These students will then begin attending school in person, at Edison on January 11. The in person school day will be 9:00 AM-3:00 PM. Specials will continue to be remote, asynchronous and students will be expected to do these lessons/activities at home.
** Students who attend school in person will continue to be required to follow health precautions to include: All students will stay in their classrooms throughout the day except for bathroom breaks, recess and outdoor learning. Both breakfast and lunch will be served in the classroom. All students will have their own sets of school supplies that they use each day and will not be shared with other students. All students will be required to wear masks while on school grounds and socially distance as much as possible.
** Students will bring their school supplies and Chromebooks to school and back home each day in case of a quarantine or return to remote learning.
