New Community Information:

  • The DPS GT department has updated the Universal Screening process for Gifted and Talented identification. It will now be given to all 1st and 5th grade students in late September and October. Previously, it was given to kindergarten and 2nd grade students. Since those families may have been anticipating this testing, we are offering an opt-in testing window for K and 2nd to be included in universal screenings this year. The window for families to opt-in is September 12-22. Here is a link for you to opt in your Kinder or 2nd grade student for cognitive testing. If you have any questions please email our GT teacher, Valerie Lovato - vlovato@dpsk12.net

  • Discovery Link has a new invoicing and drop in policy. Please see the details here

  • Soccer Registration for 4th and 5th grade - See flyer here for more information

  • Girls On The Run Registration is open for Edison girls in grades 3-5. This after-school activity will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:00pm starting Sept. 8. at Highlands Micro School.

  • Please be aware that dogs are not allowed on DPS property. If you bring them with you for drop off or pick up, you’ll need to wait outside school gates with your dog and let your child enter and exit without you. Please do not tie them up to school property, including to the outside of the fence. You never know what will set off a usually friendly dog.  A parent was bit this week just walking past another parent with a dog on a leash. Thank you for helping to keep our students and family members safe.

Reminders:

  • Edison Elementary Celebrates 100 Years in Historic Building — Edison Elementary School is proud to announce its 100-year anniversary celebration, to take place on Friday, Sept. 19 from 4 - 6 p.m. at the school campus. This exciting milestone marks more than a century of learning, community, and tradition in the heart of Northwest Denver. Open to all current and future students, alumni, staff, families, and community members, the event will be held in an open house format, offering something for everyone, whether you’re walking down memory lane or discovering the school’s rich history for the first time.

Event Highlights Include:

  • Self-Guided Historical Scavenger Hunt: Explore the building and uncover stories from Edison’s past.

  • Physical Artifacts Exhibit in the Gymnasium: View items that span the school’s 100-year history.

  • Historical Slideshow Presentation in the Auditorium: Enjoy a curated visual journey through the decades.

  • Local Food Trucks: Savor some of Denver’s favorite eats right on school grounds.

  • Gear up for Eagle Run – Friday, September 26! Edison’s annual run-athon builds teamwork, promotes health, and raises funds for our school. This year’s goal is $85,000 to fund paraprofessionals (teacher assistants) for the 2026–2027 school year, ensuring small-group learning in every class.  Caregivers, come cheer on your runners and stay tuned for donation details!

  • Lunchroom Policy Change: If you have a student who brings lunch from home but gets milk from the cafeteria, we will now be charging them $1 per milk. Please ensure your student has money in their account.

  • Safe drop off and pick up at Edison: Safety is our first priority at Edison and this starts with drop off and pick up of students. In order to make sure that all students are safe at all times, please:

  • Caregivers are welcome to either park on the street (not in front of a driveway) and walk to drop off/pick up students OR pull up in the Kiss and Go/Greet and Get lane (polka-dotted lane on Perry street) and stay in their car to drop off/pick up students.

  • School buses park on the east side of the school on the southwest side of Perry Street. DO NOT park or even pull over in this area.

  • The parking lot is for DPS staff ONLY, please DO NOT park, drop off or pick up students in the parking lot.

  • Volunteers Needed:

  • Important Caregiver Sign-up Links and Surveys:

  • Greet and Get - Caregivers who have 1st-5th grade students may sign up their child to be released by their teacher at 3:25 to be picked up in the Greet and Get lane on Perry Street. Caregivers who wish to use the Greet and Get lane should complete this form for each student individually, giving permission for the classroom teacher to release each student to be picked up at the Greet and Get lane daily.
