Character Trait of the Week

The character trait for this is INTEGRITY!
* Definition – Being honest and strong morals.
* We encourage you to ask your kiddos “Are you doing the right thing, even when no one is watching?”; talk to them about “Being honest with themselves.” and encourage kids to use the 4 scoop apology (“I am sorry for…” “It is wrong because…” “Next time I will…” “Can I do anything to make it better…”)

Edison Holiday Food Drive

Edison’s 5th graders are kicking off “The Season of Giving” by hosting a SCHOOL WIDE food drive benefiting Bienvenidos Food Bank in Sunnyside. Students are encouraged to participate by bringing in canned and boxed food items to help stock Bienvenidos’ pantry for the holidays. Donations will be accepted in each classroom through Monday, November 15th and the class who collects the most items will win a celebratory ice cream social!

Science Fair

Many of Edison’s students are currently hard at work with their science fair projects. Students who signed up, will set up their project in Edison’s auditorium on Wednesday, November17 from 3:30-5:00 PM. Parents are welcome to check out projects from 5:00-6:00 PM. Projects will be judged and students will view projects on November 18 during the school day.

We just need one more volunteer to help set up:

COVID

Edison has, unfortunately, had a lot of positive COVID cases and students quarantined due to exposure lately. Therefore, at school, we will temporarily ask students to sit in the same cafeteria seat each day so we can track exposures closely, ask students and adults to wear masks inside and outside on school grounds, and increase our sanitizing efforts.

Please help us by:
* Keep your child home if they are sick or have symptoms,
* Use these resources to help you decide if your child should come to school:

DPS snow day procedure for 2021-22

DPS has shared the following information regarding snow days this school year:
* For a single snow day, we will do a traditional snow day.
* If, due to weather, we are not able to safely allow students to attend in person for multiple days, then starting on the second day we will pivot to remote learning.
* To support in planning and this shift, any time we are considering a potential snow day, DPS will send messaging to schools by mid-day the day before to remind students and teachers to prepare (such as by taking home computers) in the event that it becomes a multi-day event and we need to shift to a temporary remote learning model.

DPS Healthy Start Resolution

In May 2021, DPS Board of Education passed a resolution to have all middle schools and high schools (district-managed and charters) start no earlier than 8:20 a.m. each school day to support healthy sleep habits in adolescents. The new Healthy Start bell times will go into effect for the 2023-24 school year. If you would like more information regarding this resolution or to provide feedback to the district plasse go to: https://www.dpsk12.org/healthy-start-times/
