Character Trait of the Week
The character trait for this is perseverance. Definition – power through, don’t give up!
You can reinforce this character trait at home by encouraging your children to try their best and to say “I can’t do it yet.”
Edison Annual Read-a-thon
Edison will once again have our Edison Read-a-thon to help encourage literacy for our students over winter break. The Read-a-thon will run from December 17th – January 3rd. The Edison Read-a-thon takes place over winter break for two reasons:
– Keep students reading during the 16 days off of winter break.
– Raise money for classroom libraries and the Edison Library.
We will partner again with a company called Read For My Schools (RFMS) to help with tracking minutes read and help support the fundraising part of the Read A Thon. RFMS is a web based platform as well as an app families can use at home to track minutes. All students in grades 1st – 5th will be signed up with an account during their library time. Students can then access their accounts using the RFMS link which will be located on the Edison website. Families can track students’ reading over break using the website or app. The site also allows families to send information on the fundraiser to anyone who might donate money for their students and donate directly to the site.
RFMS does track student information (how many minutes read) so parents need to be aware of this privacy issue. If you want your student to track minutes read using a different method, please email Mr. Carter to opt them out of RFMS – matthew_carter@dpsk12.org
Everyone’s goal is to read for 320 minutes over break which is about 20 minutes a day. Students can read way more than that and move up the leaderboard. For the Read-a-thon, students will earn cool prizes for reading.
There are two ways to donate to the Read-a-thon.
– Venmo: @EdisonElementaryPTA (Edison gets 100%)
– Use Read For My Schools and Stripe (Edison gets 90%)
If you have any questions or issues please email Mr. Carter. (matthew_carter@dpsk12.net)
Job Opportunities at Edison
Edison is currently looking for the following positions to fill immediately. If you are interested, please apply on the DPS job board and email Sally_Whitelock@dpsk12.net

– Health tech, 3 days/week (8:00 am – 3:00 pm)
COVID
COVID cases continue to rise at Edison and in our community. We are asking all caregivers and students to wear masks at drop-off and pick-up to keep all of our children, staff, and families safe. We have been having students stay masked outside at recess and sitting in assigned seats (selected by the students) in the cafeteria. We will continue this while cases stay high.
If you need to report a COVID case or exposure, please email Sally (sally_whitelock@dpsk12.org) and Megan (megan_bohanan@dpsk12.org) with all important information. We or someone from our health staff will contact you.
If your child has been fully vaccinated, please email a picture of their COVID vaccination card to our school nurse at jill_gardiner@dpsk12.org.
