We hope everyone received the message from the DPS superintendent stating that all DPS schools are closed tomorrow, Friday March 24, due to the school shooting at East yesterday. It feels incomprehensible that two of our colleagues were injured and a young person’s life is ended. Please join us in sending our love and support to the East HS staff and community. Thank you for understanding the need to support our staff during this sad and difficult time. We will see you after school break.
*** All current Discovery Link families are welcome to register for free daycare tomorrow from 7:00-5:30 at 14 sites. You will receive an email with details and to register through a google form.
Though the staff at Edison have not shared specific information regarding the situation at East HS with students, it is possible that students have learned details through peers, the news or overhearing adult conversations. As a parent, you are the best person to meet your child’s needs. You can provide the best explanation that fits your values and beliefs. If your child expresses a desire to talk, use empathic communication by acknowledging and expressing an understanding of your child’s experience. Please join us on May 13 at Hops and Pie from 6:00-10:00 PM for our annual adults on EdFest auction and party! EdFest raises money for the PTA general fund which raised over $55,000 last year. The PTA general fund provides Edison with funds to pay for: money for teacher accounts, online subscriptions, enrichment day, field trip transportation, Edison t-shirts for new students, community events, after school tutoring, enrichment scholarships, teacher appreciation and much more!

CSC Nominations
The Collaborative School Committee (CSC) is a great opportunity for caregivers to further participate in the education of our children by supporting decision making at the school. The CSC is a collaborative committee of school leadership, teachers, caregivers and classified staff who meet monthly to strategically design the school’s Unified Improvement Plan, analyze school data, provide guidance on and approve the school budget and staffing allocations, and advise the school leadership on school design decisions. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month from 4:30-5:30 at Edison and are open to all community members.
We have one opening for CSC caregiver representatives for the 2023-24 school year. If you are interested in serving on the CSC, please complete a nomination form no later than April 3 at: https://forms.gle/jsyhttegeDQyAkqbA

The PTA is in need of a PTA board members for next year, including the PTA president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, fundraising chair and membership chair. EVERY board position are open for nomination.

Discovery Link After-School Store every Friday!
Beginning today, 03/03/23, Discovery Link will host an after-school store every Friday, March 3-April 21, selling Icees, popcorn, and cotton candy. Sales will support costs for their annual end-of-year field trip to Skate City! Sale will occur on Edison’s playground (just outside of the cafeteria doors). Popcorn – $2, Cotton Candy – $3, Shaved Ice – $3
