PJ Day

December 16 is our Read-a-thon kick-off and PJ Day! We encourage students to wear their PJs to school and bring a book to read during the day. We will kick off the Read-a-thon with a fun day of reading before the winter break.

Read-a-thon

Mr. Carter and the Literacy Committee will be getting kids jazzed about reading and the upcoming Read-A-Thon starting December 18. Between Usborne and Scholastic Book Fairs  and the Read-A-Thon, we raised about $10,000 for books and literacy supplies last year! Eagle Readers read over 150,000 minutes and raised about $7,000 during last year’s Winter Break! We’re hoping to break that record this year in our 9th Annual Read-A-Thon! The reader who reads the most minutes per grade will receive a prize! Plus, Eagle Readers who read at least the minimum amount suggested per grade will be eligible to win fantastic prizes! This year, our goal is to raise at least $10,000 for more books and electronic literacy resources.

Dates to remember:
* December 18 – Pajama Day/Read-a-Thon  Kickoff
* December 18 – January 4 – Read-A-Thon

Important Information:
* All Edison students will be using the ReadForMySchool website again to track minutes read and to help support the fundraising process.
* Students will NOT be using their DPS email and will need to sign up at home with a family email account.  Sorry for this change, but it had to be done.
* Parents/Caregivers: Please use this link to sign in:  https://rfms.app/74588
* If any family feels like they would rather use a paper tracking system, ask their teacher and they will take part in the Read A Thon that way.
* Check out the Read A Thon website for more information. https://sites.google.com/dpsk12.net/read-a-thon/home
* Email  Mr. Carter if you have any questions.  matthew_carter@dpsk12.net

2nd Semester Enrichment Classes

Registration for the Edison Extra Enrichment after school classes for spring 2023 will begin on Tuesday, January 3rd at 6pm. This semester, we will be using a new platform to sign up for enrichments, called Homeroom.
* In order to be prepared to sign up your students for enrichments using Homeroom, please register your students before January 3rd via this link: https://homeroom.helpscoutdocs.com/article/45-create-parent-account
* We are limiting all students to a maximum of TWO enrichment courses until 01/13. On 01/13, families are welcome to sign up for any remaining spots.  Any students who are signed up for more than two enrichment courses before 01/13 will be removed from additional courses.
* Enrichment class being offered in the spring can be seen at: https://www.homeroom.com/sites/edison-elementary-school-denver All classes will be posted by January 3rd, so please check back if there is an enrichment you are looking for but don’t yet see.
* We have a very limited number of Enrichment scholarships available. If your family has a significant need and cannot afford any enrichment classes, please email Sally_Whitelock@dpsk12.net with your situation, your child’s name and grade and the enrichment class of choice (see Homeroom for schedule of classes). Limit-one Enrichment scholarship per year.

Gym Shoe Collection

We are looking to create a repository of gym shoes so that students who forget can still participate safely in gym. We will keep one pair/size in Toddlers’ size 10 through Kids’ size 7. If you have some gently used or new sneakers to donate, please have your child drop them off in the box inside the main office. Thank you for your support!

Healthy Start Times

With DPS adjusting school start and end times next year, many are wondering what Edison’s schedule will be. For the 2023-24 school year, Edison’s start and end times will remain the same as this year – Start time: 8:30, End time: 3:25.
