Bagels and Books
Please join us on December 8 from 8:00-9:00 AM in Edison classrooms for our literacy celebration – Bagels and Books! Caregivers and students will enjoy bagels while enjoying a literacy based craft activity.

Read-a-thon
Mr. Carter and the Literacy Committee will be getting kids jazzed about reading and the upcoming Read-A-Thon starting December 15. Between the Scholastic Book Fair and the Read-A-Thon, we raised about $10,000 for books and literacy supplies last year! Eagle Readers read over 150,000 minutes and raised about $7,000 during last year’s Winter Break! We’re hoping to break that record this year in our 10th Annual Read-A-Thon! Eagle Readers who read at least the minimum amount suggested per grade will be eligible to win fantastic prizes! This year, our goal is to raise at least $10,000 for more books and electronic literacy resources.
Dates to remember:
– Late November/early December: Students will learn about Read A Thon
– December 1 – Book or Story Character Day
– December 15 – Pajama Day and First day of the Eagle Read-a-Thon
– December 15 – January 2 – Read-A-Thon
Important Information:
– All Edison students will be using the ReadForMySchool website again to track minutes read and to help support the fundraising process.
– Students will NOT be using their DPS email and will need to sign up at home with a family email account.
– Parents/Caregivers: Please use this link to sign in: https://rfms.app/29732
– If any family feels like they would rather use a paper tracking system, ask their teacher and they will take part in the Read A Thon that way.

Support Edison:
Some families are in a position to support their child’s learning at home, others can support through volunteering time, and some through financial donation. To give a sense of scope, if each Edison family were to donate $500 per student per year, Edison could fund all of our fundraising initiatives.
Edison’s next fundraising event:
Read-A-Thon: This occurs during winter break and raises money for books in the Edison library, class libraries, and for subscriptions used in support of reading teaching efforts, while encouraging students to keep reading during a break from school. This is another great event for donation by grandparents, neighbors, or other supportive adults in your child’s life.
Additional ways to give money to Edison’s PTA:
Direct Ask Campaign: You may always make a one-time or set up a regular donation through PayPal, Venmo, Square, or a check. Check to see if your employer provides matching of qualified contributions made; Edison’s PTA is a qualified 501c3 organization! Monies raised through the Direct Ask Campaign are the easiest and most direct ways to support student learning for all learners.
