Read-a-thon
We had 251 students record minutes during the Read A Thon using the ReadForMySchools website. If your student took part in any reading over break, please enter it into the website. If you choose to not use the website and are using paper, please have that to your teacher by Wednesday the 11th. After Wednesday, the results will be calculated, and prizes will be handed out during library time by the end of the month.
Please continue to collect donations for all the reading that your students have done!
There are two ways to donate to the Read A Thon.
1.) Venmo: @EdisonElementaryPTA (Edison gets 100%, put “READ” in the notes)
2.) Use Read For My Schools and Stripe (Stripe deducts 2.9% plus .30 per transaction goes to RFMS)
RIF – Reading is Fundamental – January 10
This is a great program that the PTA puts on for the students at Edison. Each student gets to go to the auditorium and pick out a book to take home with them! We need volunteers to help stamp the books and help the students put their names in the book. This is a fun way to help support Edison!

Edison After School Enrichment
There are still spots available for afterschool enrichment classes. Parents may sign students up for as many classes as you want.

Parent Information Seminar

School Choice
All incoming kindergarten students, as well as any new student coming from outside of Edison’s attendance area and any student at Edison who wants to go someplace else next year, must complete an application found here: https://schoolchoice.dpsk12.org/. The school choice window is January 13 to February 14.
Current Edison students in grades kindergarten and above do not need to submit an application to stay at Edison.
The choice application process for ECE students will be different next year. ECE-4 families and ECE-3 families will complete the new UPK application starting Tuesday, Jan. 17. ECE-4 families will go through the new UPK enrollment process to match their child with a quality half-day or full-day preschool. ECE-4 applications will not run through the typical DPS lottery system. An application through the DPS SchoolChoice system will be required. ECE-3 families will still participate in the DPS SchoolChoice lottery system and will complete the UPK application to determine qualifying funding. DPS is still finalizing the process – please go to the DPS choice webpage for more information at https://schoolchoice.dpsk12.org/.
Healthy Start Times
For the 2023-24 school year, Edison’s start and end times will remain the same as this year – Start time: 8:30, End time: 3:25.
Passions Day – Volunteers needed
Passions Day will be on Friday, March 24th during the school day. Passions Day is an annual event where we invite family and community members to come present their passion to our students. Our theme will be “Pursuing passions help us connect people with respect and compassion”. During the school day on March 24, community members will present a 30 minute presentation/activity. Students will rotate to different rooms throughout the day (as a class) and listen to various presenters. Examples in the past have been: beekeepers, nursing, kombucha brewer, yoga instructors, jewelry making, city building, forensic science, flight for life, etc.
