Read-a-thon – Last Call for Donation!
We’re so close to reaching our goal—$35 per student helps us get there! The money supports books in our Edison Library, as well as other literacy resources at Edison. Friday, January 17th is the last day to make donations. Prizes for top readers will be announced next week. Great job to all our readers—keep up the amazing work!” As a reminder:
There are three ways to donate to the Read A Thon.
– Venmo: @EdisonElementaryPTA (Edison gets 100%, put “READ” in the notes)
– GiveSmart Donation Form(https://fundraise.givesmart.com/form/eAW53Q?vid=1h90fv) -Edison gets 100% if the donor covers 3.5% credit card fees. Donors get a tax deductible receipt.
– Use Read For My Schools and Stripe ($3 per transaction goes to RFMS) – https://sites.google.com/dpsk12.net/read-a-thon/home
School Choice
The school choice window for K-12th grade is January 15 to February 18 AND the school choice window for ECE is January 15-February 3. The choice application can be found here: https://schoolchoice.dpsk12.org/.
As a reminder, current Edison students in grades kindergarten and above do not need to submit an application to stay at Edison.
The following groups of students must submit a Choice application for the 2025-2026 school year:
– All incoming preschool and kindergarten students;
– All 5th graders;
– Any student currently attending any school other than Edison who would like to attend Edison next year;
– Any student at Edison who wants to go to a different school next year.
– All incoming ECE students need BOTH a DPS choice application and a UPK application.
Planning for the 2024-25 school year
As you continue to plan for the 2024-25 school year, we hope that you will prioritize school attendance. We know that students who have good attendance are much more likely to develop a positive self-concept about school and good work habits, as well as being more likely to be at/above grade level academically. Please support your students and the staff at Edison by planning your vacations when we do not have school.
Please be aware of the following dates for the 2024-25 school year:
January 20: MLK Holiday
February 14, 17: No school, Presidents’ Day Holiday
February 28: No school for Edison students
March 24-31: No school for Spring break
April 18: No school for students
May 26: Memorial Day Holiday
June 3: Last day of school, school ends at 12:00
Passions Day – Volunteers Needed
Passions Day will be on Friday, March 21st during the school day. Passions Day is an annual event where we invite family and community members to come present their passion to our students. Our theme will be “Pursuing passions help us connect people with respect and compassion”. During the school day on March 21, community members will present a 30 minute presentation/activity. Students will rotate to different rooms throughout the day (as a class) and listen to various presenters. Examples in the past have been: meteorology, marching band, forensic science, yoga, beekeeper, tap dancing, etc.!
– If you, your relatives, or your friends are interested in presenting in person at Edison on 3/21/25, please sign up at: https://forms.gle/632aBt1iz6cgJtPU6
After you sign up, you will receive additional information from Mrs. Dougherty regarding details.
