Strike Information
As many of you know, members of the Denver Classroom Teachers Association voted to strike likely beginning Monday, February 11. Since this is an act that has not occurred since 1994, and in an effort to be transparent, I believe
it is important that I share information about how our school will operate in the event of this strike.

– ECE will be cancelled during the strike due to low staffing and licensing requirements.

– Our school will be open and operating on a regular schedule. While I do not know how many of our teachers may participate in the strike, please know that our school will be open. We will be supported by substitute teachers and central office staff who hold educator licenses. If we lack the qualified staff, specials and small group instruction will not occur. Most important is that we will ensure that all students are safe, supervised, and participating in meaningful educational experiences.
School-based services will be provided, including school meals and Discovery Link before- and after-school programs.

– Please confirm your contact information is up-to-date so that we can notify you quickly of any changes. You may do this by logging into Parent Portal or contacting our front office.
Please ensure your child’s medication list is up-to-date. Please do this by contacting our front office at 720-424-7780.

– Our attendance policy on excused and unexcused absences will remain the same. If you wish to excuse your child from school, you must notify the school by calling the attendance line or the absence will be unexcused.
Safety and supervision is our first priority. During the strike, we will have limited staff. Therefore, we will cancel supervision at “Kiss & Go” and “Greet and Get” lanes. Please plan to pick students up on the black top from the teacher.

– If you wish to volunteer at our school during the strike, please contact the main office.

DPS has created a Family Resource Guide to help respond to your questions; it is available at https://www.dpsk12.org/teacher-strike/. In addition, you may call the district’s Family Helpline at 720-423-3054 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. To keep up with general news about the strike, please visit teacherstrike.dpsk12.org.

Finally, a note about safety during a strike. Feelings may be running high and we may experience picketing or other protest activity outside our school. I have worked with the DPS Safety Team to create a plan to ensure our building remains accessible in the event of such activity. I encourage you, no matter how you feel about the strike, to please support us in providing a consistent, calm, and safe environment for our students.

Thank you for your support and understanding during this challenging time.
