Edison’s Read-A-Thon Blasts Off

Let Reading Take You Places!

Welcome to the Parent Engagement Committee sponsored Read-A-Thon!

  • The theme of our Read-A-Thon is “Let Reading Take You Places”.
  • We hope to promote a love of reading, prevent a slide in skills over Winter Break, and to raise money that will go toward funding literacy supplies for the school.

Here’s how it works – your child has been given this letter and a booklet for you and your child to simply fill out and return to school (intact) no later than Friday, December 4th. Some classes are receiving forms the Monday after Thanksgiving Break. For those who have received them before break, Thanksgiving is a great chance to ask relatives to sponsor!

Step-by-step instructions and examples are included in the booklet. Completing this step by that Friday will qualify your child for a small prize. Please think of one to four people that would like to sponsor your child for the Read-A-Thon and put their address or email address in the booklet. Email is ideal for rapid and easy communication, and will save on mailing supplies. Volunteers will be contacting your sponsors via mail or email with the page you have filled out. Please remember to have your child put a short note to their sponsor in their booklet page. NO MONEY IS DUE AT THIS TIME.

NEED MORE SPONSOR SHEETS?
For email-only contacts, fill out the webform here: http://goo.gl/forms/5hu24y95ZI

For mail-only contacts, pick up more sheets in the office.

Students will receive reading logs and rules before Winter Break. The actual reading will be done the weeks of Sunday, December 20th through Saturday, January 2nd. (Please note that for the younger students not yet reading themselves, being read to by you, a sibling, or anyone else counts for their minutes read!) Students will also receive a sponsor sheet to take with them in case they want to get sponsored by someone they did not list on their booklet.

Students must turn in their reading logs and extra sponsor sheets at school no later than Wednesday, January 6th to receive another small prize. All students who turn in a reading log will be eligible for the “most minutes read” prize per grade level and the class with the most participants’ party. They do not need to have any sponsors in order to be eligible for these contests. It is that easy!

After the Read-A-Thon dates, sponsors can pay online by credit card at https://edisonpt.ejoinme.org/readathon, or mail checks, made out to the school, in the SASE supplied.

  • There will be a “Most Minutes Read” prize at the end of the Read-A-Thon, per grade level, so make sure your child turns in their reading log and extra sponsor sheets (if they used them) by noon on January 6th.
  • A class party will be awarded to one classroom between ECE-2nd grade and one classroom between 3rd-5th grade that has the highest percentage of readers turn in booklets and reading logs by Jan 6th.
