Weekly Announcements for the week of January 18

Hello all in the Land of the Eagles,

This is Sally Whitelock and Benita Cervantes with announcements for the week of January 18  for the Edison Eagles…

Thank you for your continued support during this difficult time. We would like to continue to encourage everyone to stay healthy and do your part to get our community more healthy – wear masks, socially distance, wash your hands, keep your social groups very small. We all need to work together to keep our students in school in person as long as possible. THANK YOU!

We also greatly appreciate parents who continue to communicate health concerns and COVID exposures/positive results with our school nurse. Please know that DPS continues to adjust quarantine policies based on guidance from the health department. Therefore, Edison’s nurse, Patty Nakata (Patricia_Nakata@dpsk12.org), communicates with parents about each case and makes decisions regarding students attending/returning to school. It is our hope and expectation that all students and community members be kind and refrain from judgements about other Edison families and students during this stressful time.

PTA Direct Ask Campaign

On your marks, get set, GO DONATE FOR 2021-22 paraprofessionals!

It has been a wonky year, but can you imagine how much different it would have been without the support of our amazing paras? Well, let’s not do that. PTA needs to raise $70,000 by February 10 to staff our paras for next year.

Donate now via Venmo (@EdisonElementaryPTA) or via Direct Donation (please drop check at Edison’s office  in a sealed envelope marked “PTA – Paras fund”) in a COVID friendly manner.

Read-a-Thon

The Read-a-Thon took place December 18 – January 4th. We hope students enjoyed reading and read A LOT over break. You can still donate to the Read-a-thon in one of the two following ways:

Venmo: @EdisonElementaryPTA  (Edison gets 100%)

Use Read For My Schools and Stripe (Edison gets 90%)

Traffic at drop off and pick up

Please help us keep our students safe at drop off and pick up times by doing the following:
* Do NOT park on the east side of Quitman or west side of Perry from 8:30-9:15 am or 2:30-3:15 pm.
* If you wish to stay in your car to drop off or pick up students, drive north on Quitman or south on Perry. Then, stop on the school side of the street and wait for your student to come to your car.
* Do NOT drop off students in the street.

Virtual Passions Day – Community assistance needed!

Culture and Passions Day will be on Friday, March 26 during the school day. Our theme will be  “Pursuing passions help us connect people with respect and compassion”. During the school day, students will watch videos from parents and community members sharing a passion/interest, cultural tradition, or career, as well as engage in activities in their classroom related to passions, culture and career.

If you, your relatives, or your friends are interested in creating a 10-15 minute video presentation for our students for Passions Day, please sign up at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/655BKNP

After you sign up, you will receive additional information from Mrs. Dougherty regarding details for the presentation video.
