Volunteering at Edison

The goal of the Edison Elementary volunteer program is to assist the school in providing the best possible education for each student within a positive and caring community.

Each year, we have many volunteers who give their time, energy and experience to help enrich the educational programs for our students. Volunteers make a difference and are an important part of our school team by:

  • Strengthening school programs;
  • Establishing parent groups;
  • Sponsoring/supporting special events;
  • Serving on advisory committees.

All volunteers should attend a Volunteer Training held at the school or read the Parent Volunteer Handbook

Volunteer Applications

In order to ensure that all volunteers at our school are safe to be with our students, all volunteers need to complete the volunteer application prior to volunteering at the school or with the PTA. A volunteer application is good for 3 years. Apply online

Volunteers that wish to support the PTA with opportunities that involve handling of money or who wish to be ‘unsupervised’ with students (for example, the 4th grade overnight field trip), must complete a more in-depth volunteer application and background check. Please come in to Edison’s office to complete this application.

Signing up to Volunteer

There are many opportunities to volunteer at Edison. Please sign up through one of the many Sign-Up genius links.

  • Please go to your child’s teacher’s website to locate the sign-up link to work in the classroom.
  • Recess parent coaches play games with students during recess time. Recess coaches should sign in at the office, get a volunteer sticker, and then report to Whitney Dougherty on the playground for instructions. Recess parent coaches have fun with kids, explain rules of the game, encourage students and support students with solving low level problems through ‘rock paper scissors’. If you would like to sign up to be a recess parent coach, please contact Whitney Dougherty.
  • Please go to PTA sign-up forms to sign up for PTA supported community events.
