Hello from the Volunteer Coordinator

Hello from Ms. Lea, your Volunteer Coordinator. Thank you all for the warm welcome to the school year. I’m so happy to be at Edison and I am jumping right in with many different hats!

I am here each morning as a Literacy Interventionist, providing Guided Reading Support for students in Kindergarten, Second Grade, and Fourth Grade. I have been teaching in DPS for over 10 years.

Another hat, is that of school parent myself! I have my very own Edison Kindergarten kiddo!  My family and I are so happy to join this community through that lens.

My final hat is Volunteer Coordinator. This position is as new to me as it is to Edison and I look forward to working with you as we share in the many wonderful events and traditions!

As Volunteer Coordinator my role is to support with planning community events in collaboration with the Edison Engagement Committee, the PTA and our Administration.  I will help communicate to fellow staff and the larger school community regarding community events. You will be hearing from me often as I work to recruit volunteers for events. I will also work closely with classroom parents.

The very best way to contact me is through email at Lea_Barone@dpsk12.org

If you’d like to catch me at school my office hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30-2:00 pm and Friday morning from 8:30-9:00 am.

If you have not yet completed a Volunteer Application, you can find the link through our Edison website under the About-> Volunteering tab.  We will also be holding Volunteer Training in Edison’s Auditorium on August 29th and September 6th from 8-9am.   If you are unable to attend, please take some time to read through the Volunteer Handbook, located on the same webpage as the application.

If you are interested in filing the Volunteer Role of Classroom Parent this year, please share your interest with your child’s teacher. Our hope is to have Classroom Parents determined by early September.

The Classroom Parent will:

  •         Plan classroom parties
  •         Encourage fellow parents to come to events
  •         Create playdates or ‘get togethers’ outside of school
  •         Support recruiting efforts for material resources and/or other classroom volunteer opportunities
  •         Follow the protocol for communication. All communication must go through school staff due to confidentiality laws.

Please keep an eye out for ways in which you can participate and support!
