Fuel Up to Play 60 and Edison’s Cafeteria Remodel

As you know, at Edison, we encourage students to model the CARES traits (Community Minded, Aware, Respectful and Responsible, Empathetic and Safe). One of the ways that we model our values of Community Minded and Aware is by making healthy eating and physical activity choices. With this in mind, we have decided to participate in the Fuel Up to Play 60 program.

Fuel Up to Play 60 is a program founded by the National Dairy Council and NFL, in collaboration with USDA, that empower students to take charge in making small, everyday changes at school. Students can win cool prizes, like an NFL player visit or Super Bowl tickets, for choosing good-for-you foods and getting active for at least 60 minutes every day. We want kids to make a difference not only in their lives, but also their community. The first step in this program is for students to sign up on the Fuel Up to Play 60 website at http://www.fueluptoplay60.com/ and begin earning points. Look for additional information that is coming home in Thursday folders!

The Edison Fuel Up to Play 60 Green Team is our school student leadership team. This group of 3rd-5th grade students will be brainstorming ways to challenge Edison’s student body to eat healthy and participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. The first “play” (you know, like in football) will be to remodel the cafeteria at Edison!

In addition to this great opportunity for Edison students to live healthy lives, Leprino Foods has committed to giving Edison a $15000 grant to remodel our cafeteria and support students in making healthy choices. Therefore, in March, volunteers from Leprino will be working alongside Edison’s Green Team parent volunteers to remodel our cafeteria. If you are interested in volunteering or would like to join our Parent Green Team, please join us!

Leaders from Leprino, the Western Dairy Association, and Miles from Broncos helped us kick this off with an assembly on Friday, January 16. We are excited about the opportunity this brings our community. Let the playing begin!
